Partitioning and Availability of Metals from Water Suspended Sediments: Potential Pollution Risk Assessment

چکیده

The water management initiatives in freshwater systems focus on availability to preserve this resource for human uses and the health of aquatic ecosystems. This work presents an assessment potential pollution risk caused by metal suspended sediments. objective study was determine partitioning, association, geochemical fractionation metals sediments from a surface body. Additionally, environmental reservoir estimated using geoaccumulation, enrichment, indices related their elemental (RAC). Chemical, mineralogical, morphological characterizations were obtained inductively coupled plasma spectrometry, alpha spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, scanning electron microscopy. Clay, quartz, montmorillonite, calcite main minerals Chemical parameter affecting concentrations sediment composition is natural origin; however, these finer particles can promote scavenging toxic metals. It contributes obtaining moderate high levels enrichment/contamination indices. Although Ca, Mg, Sr, U most accessible biota, Pb Mn exchangeable phase are potentially elements ecosystem.

Assessment of Heavy Metals Pollution in Water and Sediments of Djendjen River, North Eastern Algeria

Water and sediment samples have been collected from five different stations, located along Djendjen River between February and June, 2016 so that the concentrations of Cd, Ni, Zn, and Cu could be determined. The extent of the sediment pollution has been assessed, using the multiple pollution indices, namely Contamination Factor (CF), Pollution Load Index (PLI), and the geoaccumulation index (Ig...

Assessment of heavy metals pollution indices in sediments of Tiyab and Kolahi International Wetlands

Heavy metals are pollutants from multiple man-made or natural sources which directly or indirectly enter bodies of water. Therefore, investigation of deposits as metal contaminants is important. The international wetlands of Tiyab and Kolahi are among the most important ecosystems in the south of Iran that due to development programs are polluted by different sources. In order to identify envir...
